Trace

Electronica

Trace

Trace (David Impey) is chiefly oriented towards the chill out endof the electronic spectrum. The tracks are blends of textures, soundscpae and ethnicity taking inspiration from a number of different musical genres. Two new Trace projects are currently in the pipeline "Fun" a dance oriented album which becomes progressively darker and more ethereal and "Five Lines" a minimalist album in which eatch track has no more than five overdubs. The concept was inspired by the staves of a music manuscript. Another Trace project to look out for is Music for Yoga, coming shortly.

David Impey has worked as a musician for 20 years, principally as a composer of soundtrac music for corporate clients ranging from sherry to paint to insurance and cruise liners. Some of his music has been used extensively by TV companies across Europe including the UK and Netherlands.

His favourite project was recording the background music for a documentary on brain surgery where the brief was to write "the worlds most depressing music" The programme was aired by the BBC and attracted over 5.4 million viewers, and received very positive comments from the Daily Telegraph.

April Maybe May are Rosie Hillman (vocals and acoustic guitar) and Matt Kassell (vocals and electric guitar), who formed in 2003 in their home town of Barrow in Furness, Cumbria after both performing as solo artists in their own right, a duo who were later joined by Peter Fitzpatrick (Bass) and Jake Newton (drums).

Rosie and Matt’s approach, as a duo was simple: two guitars and two voices, with the emphasis on songwriting above all else. The band expanded to a four-piece affair where bass and drums allow the songs to be given a much fuller and deeper sound working especially well at their live gigs.

They release their self titled album “April Maybe May”, a warm, soothing and natural acoustic listen with Rosie’s emotive and sultry vocals complimenting the many and varied percussive instruments that are all used to create such a beautiful drift away album. In 2009 the album had a limited edition release on Seahouse Records. Due to the success of this digital only release, the album has now been given a full distribution release through Crash Records.

In 2005/6 they recorded and released their first EP ‘Down To Earth’, under the name Fallen Leaves. ‘Down To Earth’ was a lo-fi, home-recorded affair, which set the tone for future works. The run of 250 CDs, complete with hand-painted, recycled cardboard covers, sold out quickly as Fallen Leaves began making a name in their local area. A main stage appearance at the 2006 Dent Folk Festival saw the duo holding their own alongside national established acts.

The following year they released their next EP ‘And It Hit Me’. Again, it was self-released and revealed a more serious, darker side to the band’s sound. Fallen Leaves began to travel further a field to play, testing their songs to city crowds. They were nominated for an INDIE award in the best alternative category, and continued to write new songs to play at gigs. They also supported established artists Catherine Feeny, Elaine Palmer, Diane Cluck and Ezio to name but a few.

2008 saw another independent release, ‘Sunshine’. This time the EP was recorded with a full band and this release saw a leap in both production and songwriting skills. National reviews followed and Fallen Leaves got their first national radio airplay on BBC6 Music’s Tom Robinson Introducing show. Their first London show, a headline slot at The Queen’s Head in Islington, was a great success and left the band wanting more.

In 2009 the band were forced to change their name after discovering London punks The Fallen Leaves had released their own album and were dominating Google. April Maybe May was the new name, and came about as a reply to when Rosie and Matt’s album would be ready. And so it was, in May 2009, that their 11-track debut CD was given its initial release, which was a diverse collection of indie-folk-pop gems.

When they are not performing live around the country, April Maybe May hide away in their home studio in the attic of their house, constantly working on writing and recording new material.

"The band’s soft, warm, occasionally jazz-inflected music floats out of the speakers like meringues on custard. If Radox sold music, it would sound like this." Sound on Sound Magazine

"Blending beautiful harmonies and warm acoustic arrangements, this is what love sounds like". Select Magazine

"...April Maybe May turn in their songs with a natural, crystalline passion…Their honey dewed melodies and caressed, wondrous sound almost carries you into the room on a bed of succulent, fragrant acoustica." Manchester Music

Loz Jones

Loz Jones and his six piece rock band join the Crash Records roster and release their single/video Idiot Room on the 3 August 2009 after we heard them being featured regularly on BBC 6 Introducing.

‘How on earth can that just be an unknown track on MySpace her than something that's all over the playlists of the country? It's classic, laconic English pop songwriting from Loz Jones’ - Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music (Idiot Room)

Loz Jones, a colourful, dynamic pop/rock band with bags of varied and original music. The six of them combine male and female vocals and innovative rock guitars with catchy, sometimes intoxicating synths over a driving backbone of a rhythm section.

They are a rare and exciting proposition grabbing the attention of a spectrum of industry, all of which are recognising Loz Jones’ potential.

So far this year they have succeeded in reaching the regional semi-finals of the Surface Unsigned Festival and have been invited to play the BBC Introducing stage at Luton Summer Festival

In 2006 Loz Jones released “Not The Only One”, a five track EP that was so well received it spurred the band on to record the album “Spoiling It For Everyone,” recorded at Echo Studios with producer Jamie Masters. The album received great reviews, leading to the regular features on Tom Robinson’s Introducing show on BBC 6 Music.

The Antix

Crash Records welcome young band Isaacs Aircraft to their roster.

‘Cambridge combo Isaac’s Aircraft are bucking the trend with storming live shows and records like this one, Friends & Foes.’ Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

Since forming at the back of a former factory workers house in Cambridge, Isaac’s Aircraft claimed accolades on the Cambridge music scene with a summer of packed out live shows and the release of their debut EP, Holding Up The Line in 2007.

Their latest EP Friends & Foes, as featured on BBC6 Music, recognises the bands progression from a three piece to a four piece, creating an all-together much rockier sound.

With heavy piano influences ranging from Chopin to The Arcade Fire, Isaac’s Aircraft combine a concoction of pounding rhythms and tortured lyrics, to create a truly refreshing and innovative new sound.

‘...After listening to friends and foes, everyone's new year's resolution should be to eat, drink and sleep with Isaac's Aircraft!’ Jez Sallis, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

The Antix

The Antix join the ever expanding Crash Records roster, dynamic girl front power pop managed by John from Grant Music Mangement. The Antix will release their EP on 10 November 2008 through Crash Records

The Antix, formed in 2005 are a young, fiery five-piece indie rock band from west Yorkshire, described by thebeatsurrender.co.uk as "recalling Jefferson Airplane at their very best", and by a local music producer as "Blondie with balls"

The bands influences range from Deep Purple, through Kings Of Leon to No Doubt.

The Antix excite because they can't be pigeonholed. Pounding rhythms are married to emotionally charged vocals, soaring guitar lines and an array of sounds and noises that create a dense whole that still gets under your skin."

The Antix are a perfect balance of youth and experience, brutality and compassion, dirt and clinical cleanliness. On stage Grace is pure electric with a vast vocal range, and piercing looks, The Guitar roles, Mat and Malik like a see-saw on an axis, Will’s bass is to soul to be rock but it is, then we have the Animal on drums Daley (nothing to say) In the studio each member is autonomous, lyrics, beats, melodies and ideas come from everywhere.

The music they make is steely hard, yet cut through with raw, emotive longing and power.

Radio 1 Nick Grimshaw " the Antix are a fireary lot and that Grace is hot".

Top producers John Cornfield (Razorlight, Athlete and Boy Kill Boy) "Im very interested there pretty cool"

Tristan Ivemy (Babyshambles, The Holloways) said "The band are great im definatly up for working with them"

Tim Matthews

Amazing new singer/songwriter

Tim Matthews

Music was something that played a very important part in the life of Tim even from a very early age.  From his early teens he was playing guitar and singing, while his acting career began to take off.

Tim appeared in numerous productions including the very popular series “Band of Brothers ”produced by Spielberg,  as well as acting roles at the National Theatre and appearances alongside Rachel Weiss in the West End.

However, music continued to be his real desire in life, a powerful and emotive force and in 2006 he formed a band and spent several months in the studio recording his debut album. He is now gigging with his live band as well as appearing solo as an acoustic singer/songwriter. Tim will be releasing several singles/video and his debut album through Crash Records in the spring and summer of 2007..

"Comfort & Joy" reviews:

"Mungo do a stylish, slickly arranged and frankly groovy take." - Unpeeled Magazine

"Well it takes one single to shake up the general dross that purports to be a christmas No 1.  Mungos festive offering sounds like Maddy Prior and The Sex Pistols in Prety Vacant mode.  On the video she comes across as a rather runky Vicar of Dibley.  Its Punk meets Sandta and a great track to deck the halls with holly" - Get Ready to Rock review.
